The Orpheus Choir of North HertfordshireDate: March 17, 2010 Category: Chamber Choirs and Vocal Ensembles Voicing: Mixed Location: Hitchin, England, United Kingdom
The Orpheus Choir of North Hertfordshire is based at the 'Benslow Music Trust' Little Benslow Hills in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. The choir was founded by John Railton and draws its membership from a wide area of Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire. It originally specialised in unaccompanied music, much of it from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, which still forms a significant part of its repertoire. Over the years this has extended to include music right up to the present day. Performances have included specially commissioned music by Patric Standford and Christopher Brown. The choir also enjoys singing in a lighter vein. A lively and adventuous chamber choir it welcomes applications for membership from tenors and basses mainly.
