WINDY CITY GAY CHORUS & ARIA: WINDY CITY WOMEN’S ENSEMBLE
PRESENT THEIR 2010 SPRING CONCERT: “IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SPRING!” www.windycitysings.org Windy City Gay Chorus and Aria: Windy City Women’s Ensemble invite you to welcome spring with all its glory at “It Might As Well Be Spring!” under the direction of Stephen C. Edwards, Artistic Director. You know that springtime in Chicago can be anything but spring weather wise…but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate the promise of green grass, warm rains, and pansies, pansies, everywhere!! So cast off those overcoats and dust off your spring bonnets as we serenade you with songs bursting with enough springtime feeling to make any weather forecast feel like a walk in the park. Highlights of the concert include the beautifully spirited “Ecce Gratum” from Carl Orff’s masterpiece Carmina Burana, performed by the combined ensembles. Aria steps out to perform some of Claude Debussy’s most pristine work for women’s voices with “Salut Printemps” and “V’la Le Bon Vent”. A beautiful set of pieces by James Mulholland follows with “Heart We Will Forget Him”, “Life Has Loveliness to Sell” and a Windy City audience favorite; “Red, Red, Rose”. Of course, we can’t forget to pay tribute to the lighter side of the season, and what could be more appropriate than the hysterical “Lambscapes”, composed and arranged by one of Windy City Performing Arts former luminaries, Eric Lane Barnes, performed by Windy City Gay Chorus. Spring will be in full bloom in the program’s second half, with everything from Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Flowers That Bloom in Spring” (tra-la!) from The Mikado, to the hilarious Busby Berkeley takeoff “Pansies Everywhere” and “Easter Parade” --did we mention bonnets? Aria won’t let you get wet with “Come in From the Rain”, but you’d better hang on to your umbrella, because they’ll shower you next with “It’s Raining Femmes!” It’s a concert sure to put some spring in your step and a song in your heart! Don’t miss it! “It Might As Well Be Spring” featuring Windy City Gay Chorus and Aria: Windy City Women’s Ensemble, will be performed Saturday, March 20th at 5:00 and 8:00 p.m., in the Hoover-Leppen Theatre at Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St., Chicago. Tickets are $20, general admission, available online at www.windycitysings.org or at the door one hour prior to performance.
