Local Welsh heritage group, The St. David's Society of Minnesota, will host a Welsh hymn singing and music festival, known in Wales as a Gymanfa Ganu (gah man va gah new) The event will take place on Sunday, April 18, 2009, 2:00 p.m., at St. David's Episcopal Church, 13000 St. David's Road, Minnetonka. There is no admission charge.
Reverend Joseph Corbin, Reedsburg, WI, will direct the singing and Trilby Busch will accompany on piano. This is an audience participation event with everyone joining in to learn how the Welsh sing in four-part harmony. While most verses will be sung in English there will be Welsh language songs as well. A great chance to hear this beautiful language that is still spoken in Wales.
There is plenty of on-street parking and the church is handicapped-accessible. In the Welsh tradition, tea and sweets will be served after the singing.
