Need salary suggestion for 20/wk church positionDate: April 18, 2010
I have been working as the parish accompanist for several years, earning $70/2hour+ per service. These have been on Wed. nights, Saturday and Sunday services with rehearsal prior.
At same church was a Music Director who worked 20/hrs per week for $17-20,000. per year.
The church is now combining my position and that of Mus. Director, and I had interview yesterday.
They asked what salary I wanted.
Obviously they can not afford what WAS my hourly rate of $30-35/hr while pt. time.
All suggestions welcome, as to what salary I should ask, for being the combined Music Director/organist/pianist.
Thanks,
Jolyne

I would check the AGO website (http://agohq.org) for ranges. Their salary scale takes into account education, training, certifications, and hours expected.
All best,

Similar to Mr. McConnell's suggestion, the National Association of Pastoral Musicians' website (http://www.npm.org) has a salary worksheet that you can fill out which gives very clear guidelines for salary ranges. The only caveat with this document is that it is about 10 years old so you will need to compensate for inflation and factor in cost-of-living adjustments based on locality.
NPM's document "Work and Renumeration" can be found here: http://www.npm.org/Sections/images/DMMDSalaryGuidelines.pdf
Hope this helps!
