FINAL CALL: ILLINOIS ACDA CHORAL COMPOSITION for MEN's VOICES

Application Deadline: Postmarked by April 30th, 2010.

Illinois ACDA hosts a choral competition to support the composition of quality choral music in the state of Illinois. This year, Illinois composers with a creative voice and clear compositional ability are invited to submit works for MEN'S CHORUS (TB, TTB, TBB, TTBB). The winning composition will be premiered by the Director's Chorus of Illinois-ACDA, an adult mixed choir. In addition, winning composers are invited to discuss their winning works and to display their other compositions at our annual summer ReTreat.

Detail:

All Illinois composers, even if not currently a member of ACDA, are eligible and encouraged to submit their works for consideration. The composition should be suitable for advanced high school-level/entering college-level men's chorus. Postmark deadline: April 30th, 2010

Prize: $1000; a live premiere under the baton of Charles Bruffy on July 5, 2010, the final day of the IL-ACDA Summer Choral ReTreat.

Submission Criteria:

- Applicants must be a resident of the state of Illinois
- All submissions must be an original composition for men's choir, a cappella or with piano accompaniment. Occasional divisi is acceptable.
- If text is not original, proof of public domain or author's/publisher's written permission for use of text is required.
- Text may be sacred or secular
- Performance time of the work should be approximately 3-5 minutes in length.
- All submissions must not have been commissioned or previously performed.
- Do not send original manuscripts. Please submit 2 clearly legible copies of the score, on 8x11 paper, unbound.
- Scores will be returned if a stamped (with adequate postage), self-addressed envelope is included with your submission.
- Scores submitted without a complete application will not be considered: see http://www.il-acda.org/Composition.htm for entry forms and details.
- The U.S. postmark deadline for entry is April 30, 2010.

- The winner will be announced no later than June 1, 2010.
- IL-ACDA reserves the right to not award a prize.

- The decision of the judges is final.

- Composer's name, phone number and mailing address
- Composer's email address (all communications, including announcement of winner, will be via email)
- 3 legible copies of the score
- Proof of permission to use the text, if not original text or proof in the public domain.
- Biography of composer
- A self addressed-stamped envelope if you want scores returned.
