Youngstown State University Dana School of Music has been celebrating its 140th Anniversary. As part of this celebration, the Dana School of Music and the Dana Concert Series will provide a special concert, "Carmina Burana", on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 8:00 P.M. in the Stambaugh Auditorium of Youngstown. The evening's events will commence with a Pre-Concert Lecture at 7:00 P.M. in the Stambaugh Auditorium Marble Room by YSU Music History Professor, Dr. Ewelina Boczkowska. The lecture will provide a historical perspective on Carl Orff's masterwork. There will be more than 200 musicians involved in this program including a massed choir consisting of members from the Dana Chorale, the YSU University Chorus, the YSU Women's Chorus, and the Stambaugh Chorus. These vocal ensembles are conducted by Hae-Jong Lee, YSU/Dana Director of Choral Activities. The Canfield High School "One Octave Higher Choir" led by Mrs. Kelly Scurich, Director of Vocal Music at Canfield High School will also participate and the three vocal soloists will be Misook Yun, soprano, William Ambert, tenor, and Thomas Scurich, baritone. The YSU Wind Ensemble, the Dana School's pre-eminent band, will provide the instrumental accompaniment for the concert. Stephen L. Gage, YSU Director of Bands/Professor of Music, will be the conductor for the event.
Tickets for the event are available at the door: $5 for adults & $4 for students and Senior citizens.
