DuPage Chorale Sings Mass for Peace and Kesselman Premiere
The DuPage Chorale, a community chorus based at College of DuPage, will present Karl Jenkins: The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, on Sunday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. at the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL. The program will also see the premiere of a new work by music director Lee Kesselman, based on choral music of Handel, titled Handel Trio.
The Kesselman premiere is a re-thinking of three great choruses by English composer Georg Frideric Handel. Kesselman has re-scored the Handel accompaniments for various combinations of piano duet, marimbas, trap set, bells, chains, garbage can lids, timpani, chimes and other percussion instruments. In addition to being conductor and Professor of Music at College of DuPage, Kesselman is a prominent composer in the U.S. and abroad. The three Handel choruses are:
"Harmony, from Heavn'ly Harmony" (Ode for St Cecilia's Day)
"How Long, O Lord" (Susanna)
"Zadok the Priest" (Coronation anthem #1)
Tickets are available at the McAninch Arts Center ticket office (630) 942-4000 and at the door. Special rates are available for seniors, students and groups.
