What could the reason be for extreme case of breath on the voice and what should be done?

Nicol, you might want to define "breath on the voice for us," since people may have different interpretations of such a vague description.

Aside from defining "breath on the voice" you may also want to include such things as the age of the singer, male/female, whether or not the issue is a typical characteristic of this person's voice, or was it a "recent development" - there is so much needed to even begin to answer this, and even at that, it would not be prudent to diagnose and propose solutions via email (as the earlier post point out).

ALl teenage girls and many adult women have what is called a "mutational chink." This is a small gap that prevents the glottis from fully closing, thereby the breathy sound. It cannot be overcome physically since it is a physiological phenomenon. trying to cause the singer to correct it will result in frustration and vocal damage.
