August 15 -20, 2010, 5-night, 6-day singing retreat at the
Bishop's Ranch. The cost for teaching, food and lodging is
$890.
No audition- rehearse and perform, explore your voice and
be
in your body. Chill time to swim, move, connect, walk
in the countryside, read, and eat prize-winning food.
We will prepare Appalachian, sea chantey, southern gospel,
contemporary American and European sacred semi-classical.
Arrangers may include Northern Harmony Quartet, Brooklyn-based
singer/songwriter Zara Bode, Portland singer/banjo
player/songwriter, Leela Grace, Bounding Main Sea Chantey WI
quartet, folk composers/arrangers/singers, Richard Amidon,
Malcolm Dalglish, Linda Tillery, Bobby McFerrin, Becky Reardon,
Ysaye Barnwell, Melanie Damore & Moira Smiley.
We rehearse and sing our final concert (to which we can invite friends, family and potential chorus singers!) in Bishop's Ranch lovely mission-style, resonant chapel. Grace Cathedral Boy's Choir retreat is concurrent with ours. That means, as a bonus to our own singing, we are invited to listen to them sing Evensong each and every day. Lauren Carley, mezzo-soprano, performs with her ensembles Polyhymnia and Schola Adventus, and tours her original cabaret featuring the music of Kurt Weill. Ms. Carley teaches the Joy of Singing for UC Berkeley's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, maintains a private voice studio, teaches Sight Singing 101 for Singers, conducts Bay Area community choruses, and leads the Joy of Singing in Sacred Spaces vocal workshop each summer in Italy. Past appointments include Vocal/Choral Director for the Oakland Public Conservatory of Music, Oakland Youth Chorus choral conductor, Guest Professor in Drama at Colorado College, Adjunct Professor of Voice at New York University and NYC American Musical and Dramatic Academy Vocal Faculty. |
