It's oh so choir - international choir festival BrusselsDate: July 14, 2010 Location: Belgium
On Saturday 30 October and Sunday 31 October, Koor&Stem are organising an international choir festival for singers, choirs, conductors, composers and other lovers of vocal music at the Flagey centre in Brussels. The main focus of the programme will be on Scandinavian choir music, but there’s a lot more. Discover the full programme now on www.ohsochoir.be. There’s something for everyone at the festival: concerts, reading sessions, lectures, workshops and an information fair which will run alongside the festival.
Concerts
Both on Saturday and Sunday, you will be able to enjoy an international choir meeting with performances from, among others, Cappella Concinite (BE), Arc Sonore (BE), Amarylca (BE), Musa Horti (BE), Kamerkoor Cantate (NL), Jeugdkoor Giocoso (NL), Cappella Breda (NL), Kamerkoor Melopoeia (NL), Nordlyskoret (DK) and Sankt Pauls Kammerkor (DK). This will undoubtedly prove to be an exciting exchange of choir cultures. All choirs are excellent amateur choirs bringing a programme of top quality. To finish this festival off on a relaxing note, there is the chance to indulge in a brief session of community singing.
On Saturday afternoon, you will be able to attend a festive musical workshop of the school project ‘Attakatamoeva’ which involves a number of primary schools from the Brussels Flagey area, while late in the afternoon on Sunday 31 October, the Flemish Radio Choir led by Bo Holten will duly conclude the festival.
Programme
We have put together an active and varied programme of workshops, reading sessions and lectures by, among others, Bo Holten (DK), Mats Nilsson (SWE), Kurt Bikkembergs (BE), Michael Bojesen (DK), Louis Buskens (NL), Sandra Milliken (AUS), Lucien Posman (BE) and many more … These conductors and/or composers will undoubtedly create a wonderful singing experience and unearth many finds from the Dutch, Flemish, Swedish and Danish choir repertoire.
Young composers, too, will be given the chance to shine at It's oh so choir. Some 15 international young talents from Estonia, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Norway and Switzerland have sent some of their work beforehand. Four of them will soon be selected by an international jury made up of Rainer Held (SWZ), Michaël Scheck (BE), Eva Kollar (HUN) and Vic Nees (BE). The selected works will be brought during an open rehearsal by the Flemish ‘ambassador choir’ Aquarius led by Marc Michaël De Smet where all kinds of aspects of the composition will be discussed during this fascinating didactical process which will actively involve the young composers, jury and listeners alike.
