WOMEN'S CHOIR OF THE PONTIFICAL CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF PERU
The Women's Choir of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru was founded in 1996. It was created at the First Workshop on Choral Singing and Conducting organized by the Center of Studies, Research and Diffusion of Latin American Music of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, under the leadership and direction of Maestro Armando Sanchez Malaga. This workshop was led by Maestra Digna Guerra, Director of the National Choir of Cuba. Once the workshop was over, the direction of the Women's Choir was entrusted to Isabel Salas Rivera, who has been the director since. The Choir has had a series of successful performances in Lima and other cities in Peru, as well as performances in the International Choral Festivals in Guayaquil, Ecuador (1999 and 2009); Metepec, Mexico (2001); Missoula, U.S.A. (2003); Nancy, France (2005) and some cities in Spain (2007).
Its outreach program includes numerous educational concerts, gala concerts, tributes, musical performances, concerts in schools, hospitals, retirement homes and churches. In addition, they have recorded five CDs: Cantares de Navidad (Christmas Carols) in 1998; Cantemos, bailemos (Singing, dancing) in 2000, Aleluya in 2002, Musica Peruana y Latinoamericana en Missoula (Peruvian and Latin American Music in Missoula) in 2004, and En Cantos (2007).
The Women's Choir PUCP continues its work on the diffusion of the Peruvian and Latin American music; work based on a true and sincere commitment to arts.
ISABEL SALAS RIVERA
She pursued studies at the Peruvian National Conservatory of Music, graduating from the Choral Conducting and Music Education.
She has attended Choral Festivals, workshops classes in Scotland, France, England, Chile, Ecuador and Peru, having teachers such as Lazlo Heltay, Alan Taverner, Rene Falquet, Pier Cao, Steven Roberts, Werner Pfaff and Carlos Fernandez Aranzay.
She has been the director of the Children's Choir of the Peruvian National Conservatory of Music from 1989 to 1994. She founded the Initiation Program and taught Choral Conducting.
Since 1996 she has been leading the Women's Choir as a result of the outstanding work and efforts of the Choral Workshop under the leadership of Maestra Digna Guerra, Director of the National Choir of Cuba. With the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru’s Choir she has attended International Choral Festivals in Ecuador, Mexico, U.S.A., France and Spain.
