Grankulla Kammarkör - Kauniaisten Kamarikuoro

Category: Community Choirs
Category: Chamber Choirs and Vocal Ensembles
Voicing: Mixed
Location: Kauniainen, Finland

The Kauniainen Chamber Choir (GKK Grankulla Kammarkör) is an ambitious amateur mixed (SATB) choir, which has about 35 singing members. The choir came into being in 1974 as a class within the Kauniainen municipal institute. It has been a fully independent association with its own economy for about twenty years. The Kauniainen Chamer Choir's domicile is Kauniainen, or Grankulla as it is in Swedish-language.

For the City of Kauniainen GKK is an image maker with a strong local affiliation. The choir is a significant cultural link binding the inhabitants of Kauniainen in every-day life and in times of special celebration. It also fulfills a role as external “ambassador” for the city in its performances elsewhere in Finland and abroad.

Our musical director Rolf Wilhem ”Kalle” Ahlberg, M.D. (b.1941) and Director Cantus, has enriched the musical life in Finland for a long time. He has proved himself a versatile choir leader or many of the most loved choirs in the country, i.e. Svenska Sångare, Muntra Musikanter, Notknackarna and especially Kauniaisten kamarikuoro (GKK). His compositions and arrangements have been offered to an appreciative and broad audience in the form of concerts and record. Through his activity in many of the different organizations promoting music in Finland Rolf Wilhelm Ahlberg has generously offered his versatility and knowledge of church music as well as popular compositions.
