Travel opportunities for middle school chorus?

Hi, all:

I'm a middle school chorus teacher, and I'm looking into travel opportunities for my eighth grade chorus. My seventh graders already travel to compete in a competition at a theme park not far away, so I'm looking for an exciting opportunity for my eighth that would build on that seventh grade experience -- a capstone, if you like.

Obviously, I'm familiar with the festivals that are built around theme park locations, such as Fiesta-Val, Disney, etc. My preference, though, would be to go to a city with some cultural and historical significance and perform and tour there. I think the theme park trips are great fun, but for lack of a better term, I'm envisioning something "classier" for my eighth graders.

Any ideas? Thanks sincerely.

I'm still working on expanding my Lincoln Center Choir event sponsored by DCINY and would love to have your choir or specific students from your choir or program sing under my direction April of 2011 in New York City!

If you'd like more information, please contact me! Hope you all are enjoying or about to enjoy your summer vacations!

I have not done this kind of trip with my choir students, but the band and orchestra at my school did a combo theme park and historical tour. They went to Philly for 3 days--Friday, they did a performance at a school and some tour stuff, Saturday they did the theme park competition thing, and then on Sunday they did the cultural tour thing.
