Under the direction of Timothy Brown, Clare College Choir has become world-renowned for the range and flexibility of its choral sound, and for its innovative repertoire, which frequently includes music composed specially for the choir. In addition to its primary task of leading chapel services, it gives frequent concerts, and has toured extensively to most parts of the world, including Russia and the Far East. It performs in major concert halls all over Europe, and gives many concerts with leading period instrument orchestras and conductors, as well as contributing regularly to BBC radio broadcasts. New works have been written for the choir by many of the leading choral composers of the day, including Christopher Brown, Tarik O'Regan, John Rutter and Giles Swayne (composer-in-residence at Clare). Its critically-acclaimed discography covers all styles and periods, most recently the sacred choral music of Vaughan Williams on the Naxos label, a CD which spent a month in the Gramophone Magazine bestsellers' list.
This concert will be one of the last opportunities to hear the unique sound of Clare Choir under Timothy Brown, before he retires after 31 years as Director of Music.
