Camerata Singers is the premiere, auditioned choral ensemble of the Department of Music at Longwood University. Since its founding in 1976, the choir has performed throughout the United States including prestigious venues such as the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. and St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. In 2004 the choir was invited to perform at the VMEA state conference in Norfolk. The choir sings a variety of challenging and unique repertoire from the 15th century to modern times. Camerata Singers performs several concerts per semester as well as regional tours to different high schools in Virginia and the surrounding region. Members of the choir come from all academic disciplines throughout the University and entrance is by audition. As a student organization, members of the choir elect officers who are instrumental in fund raising, travel, and outreach. Members of the Camerata Singers serve as ambassadors to the school and community while providing high standards of performance of the finest choral music. |
