Ways to Finance a Singer's Trip

The Choral Society in my hometown is taking a trip to Italy. The singers are all paying their own way which for most of them is not any trouble however a friend of mine is a recent college grad who unable to afford the trip but would love to go (and the tenors need him to go). He is currently looking to try to find some way he can get the money. Is there any grant or scholarship or anything that someone knows about. I know it's a longshot but I though I'd try to see if anyone had any ideas. Thanks.

I have gone to suggesting that individuals raise funds doing the very thing a choir prepares to do in a tour--performing the pieces on the program. A member of each of the other sections could accompany the one who needs money, and schedule the ensemble for a series of performances for church and community group luncheons, socials, meetings, etc. A collection plate on the table, at the entrance/exits, or passed around the audience/congregation may work better than negotiating a payment, which would be considered taxable income. Network through members in the choir, and a lot of performances can be arranged in a broader geographic area.
