Students of Shaw, Westminster, St. Olaf

Hello all,

I am looking to interview choral conductors who:
(a)    studied directly under Robert Shaw
(b)    studied at Westminster Choir College
(c)    studied at St. Olaf College

These interviews would be part of a research project interested in the long-term impact of the philosophies of these major schools of music and their legacies in choral music.

Thank you,

Chris:  I took two of the Shaw, Westminster workshops in Princeton, summers of '75 and '77. We sang  for six hours daily and performed in Princeton and NYC. I earned a church music degree from Westminster as an older student(second time out!), graduating in '81. Be glad to help if relevant to your project.

I work with a fabulous conductor who studied with Shaw and who has incorporated much Shaw philosophy into his musical leadership...but he's not a ChoralNet member so he won't see your message. Can you supply your contact information so we can pass on your request as appropriate to people who might meet your criteria?
Also, it would be helpful if we knew...are you a student? Faculty? is this for a dissertation, a book, etc.?

Chris:  I did my MM at Westminster ('94) and worked with Shaw in conjunction with WCC, the LA Master Chorale, and Carnegie Hall. Let's talk.

Hello, Chris -
I studied with Olaf Christiansen (and sang in the St. Olaf Lutheran Choir) back in the late fifties-early sixties. I'd be happy to help you.

I would be happy to talk with you about my work with Shaw, Herford and Wesminster, all dating back to the late 1950s.

Hi Chris,
I completed my MM in choral conducting at Westminster Choir College in 1977.  While there I attended several sessions of Robert Shaw's workshops that were held at WCC.  I'd be happy to help you.

Hi Chris,
I was an organ perforance major at St. Olaf and graduated in 1970. I sang in the St. Olaf choir for three years - one under Olaf Christiansen and two under Kenneth Jennings. I am currently the Director of Music (organist, choir director) at a Presbyterian Church. I'd be happy to help.
