Since this Community was established, the establisher (Leon Thurman) has been through an array of accidents, illnesses, unemployment, starting up a business (The Leon Thurman Voice Center, www.leonthurman.com) and other such malevolent and rewarding experiences. But now, I'm back and would like to notify the 81 people who joined this community that I'd like us to do some serious and sometimes hilarious sharings, exchanges, and debates--all for the purpose of personal wondering and learning.
I've placed in the Library a PDF copy of a paper that was presented at the Second International Conference on the Physiology and Acoustics of Singing. The conference was held on October 7 - 9, 2004, in Denver, Colorado, and was hosted by the National Center for Voice and Speech. The subject of the paper (vocal registers) was controversial at the conference, as was the paper itself. Its four authors have a reputation for thoughtfulness, and for thinking and acting outside conventional boxes. So, look out! Widely accepted vocal concepts, terminologies, and practices will be challenged!
The paper's title: Addressing Register Discrepancies: A Science-Based Theory of Vocal Register Phenomena. It's long...but then, did you think we human beings were 'simple' creatures?
For anybody who reads it, please ask Qs, make comments and suggestions, take a swing at the authors, whatever, in the comments section of the community.
