THE MOSES GEORGE HOGAN/GLENN EDWARD BURLEIGH CHORAL FESTIVAL

The Pittsburgh Gospel Choir, under the direction of Dr. Herbert V.R.P. Jones, will host the "Moses George Hogan/Glenn Edward Burleigh Choral Festival." To be held Friday & Saturday, April 15-16, 2011, in the City of Pittsburgh, this Festival will be comprised of middle school, high school, college & university, amateur and professional, community and church choirs; choral music enthusiasts, African-American Sacred Music scholars, and lovers of the music of the Late Moses G. Hogan and Glenn Edward Burleigh.
 
The Festival will open on Friday night, April 15, 2011, with a 7:00 P.M. concert featuring 'Essence of Joy', Dr. Anthony L. Leach, Director (Penn State Univ.), The Pittbsurgh Gospel Choir & The Pittsburgh Gospel Ensemble, Dr. Herbert V.R.P. Jones, Director.  Saturday, April 16, 2011, will have choral and orchestral rehearsals, an 11:00 A.M. panel discussion with panelists:  Dr. Lynn Drafall, (Penn State School of Music)Professor Roland M. Carter,(Univ. of Tennessee, Chattanooga)  Mr. John Goldsmith (Univ. of Pittsburgh, Heinz Chapel Choir), LaVonne Burleigh (Sister of Glenn E. Burleigh, owner, Burleigh Publications, Inc.), Dr. James Kinchen (Univ. of Wisconsin), Mr. Brian Stratton (Former soloist and member, Moses Hogan Singers & Chorale).  There will be a 6:00 P.M. pre-concert panel discussion followed by a 7:00 P.M. concert that will feature the Festival Chorus & Orchestra, under the baton of Dr. Anthony L. Leach, Penn State Univ., guest conductor.
 
The venues for the 2-day Festival are:  The August Wilson Cultural Center, First Presbyterian Church, and Trinity Cathedral - all in downtown Pittsburgh, PA.
