The Crossing
Donald Nally, conductor The Crossing has posted a new, brief video documentary summarizing a recent commissioning project. "The Making of a New Work: David Lang's Statement to the Court" can be viewed by clicking here. As with most projects of The Crossing, we dive in with an idea and see where the journey takes us: when we commissioned our Month of Moderns series of videos (Philip Levine and the composers of The Levine Project) from Jay Sprogell, we didn't know quite what direction our final, summarizing, installment might take. We wound up with a visual record that captures the Month of Moderns experience through audience, composer, poet, and singer interviews, and articulates the Crossing ethos in a way we hadn't previously considered. This weekend The Crossing joins Lyric Fest in two concerts featuring the music of Samuel Barber in celebration of his centenary.
