This new group directed by Eloise Porter is comprised of Los Angeles Unified Elementary music teachers and friends. The Los Angeles City Elementary Schools Music Assoc. (LACESMA) promotes music in our schools and every year raises scholarship funds which are given to LAUSD elementary instrumental music students, by audition, for private study on their instrument. The professionally trained singers present selections from Britten's Ceremony of Carols and Meachem's Seven Joys of Christmas along with other traditional music of the season arranged by Wilhousky, Rutter, Shields, Caldwell & Ivory and others. Frances Murphy and Julie Corallo accompany the group on the harp and piano, respectively.
Admission is free. Donations accepted to benefit the LACESMA scholarship fund. Come for an hour's program to put you in the holiday spirit, and support music in our schools. The Thursday Evening Concert Series at Wilshire Park Elementary promotes music education in our schools and community awareness of the vast amount of professional talent teaching music and arts as a regular part of the LAUSD elementary school day.
You can also hear the group on December 24 between 3:00 and 4:00 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion performing as part of the LA County Holiday Celebration and broadcast over KCET.
