I am sad to pass along the information that our dear friend, Katinka Daniel, passed away peacefully in her sleep this morning. Further information may be forthcoming from the family.
Katinka was a tremendously positive influence on the world of music education as a teacher, author and storyteller. She and her children were rescued during the Hungarian Revolution by Dag Hammersjold, then President of the United Nations, through his having a private plane land in a farm field and flying them to Vienna and freedom. She was a champion of the Kodály Method of music literacy and influenced thousands of music teachers and choir directors the world over. I think she was 96 years young, now rejoining her beloved husband, Ernö.
