A Celebration of Hymns - A Score-Reading Seminar with Alice Parker

Location: New York, USA
Monday, January 17- Friday, January 21, 2011
9:30 A.M.- 4:30 P.M. daily
Park Avenue Christian Church
Park Avenue and 85th St.
New York City
Alice Parker will lead the workshop that includes a critical study of texts and tunes, an anlysis of melodies and settings, historic and modern styles, and teaching the choir and congregation.   Alice Parker's Melodious Accord Hymnal, which will be the focus of the study, is a collection of 150 tunes and settings not available elsewhere.  Hymns range from chant to madrigal, from back-country vigor to formal praise, from soaring melody to lively dance.  Alice's settings bring a fresh voice to traditional favorites, and her teaching makes people sing better than they had imagined possible.  There will be a SING using the Hymnal on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 P.M. for participants which is open to the public.
The Seminar is open to all church musicians; choir directors, choir members, organists, worship planners and congregational singers; as well as all those who love to sing.
The fee for the Seminar is $500.00, including the Hymnal.  The fee will be pro-rated for attendance by the day.  Reduced rates for four or more from the same choir.
