OCDA Executive Board Meeting

I. Call to Order
Charla Dedmon called the meeting to order at 12:50pm. Members present were: Charla Dedmon, Darla Eshelman, Ramona Cummings, Brent Ballweg, Rebecca Lindley, Boyd Fees, Lisa Cullison, Kelly Martin, Tony Gonzales, Paula Kiner, Becky Martin, Ralph Duncan, Ginger Martin, Doris Lambert
II. Reading and Approval of the Minutes
Minutes from the July board meeting were reviewed and approved. Ralph Duncan moved to accept the minutes, the motion was seconded by Doris Lambert.
III. Committee Reports
A. Treasurer: Ramona Cummings stated that OCDA’s present balance is $55,038.19. A typed summary was made available for anyone wanting to review the specifics.
B. OCDA Webmaster: Brent Ballweg reported on the OCDA website (hosted by ACDA choral net). 68 members have joined the website. Many board members have still not joined and were strongly encouraged to take care of joining. Our constituents are not getting the information needed. Discussion followed regarding the problem, and whether or not Sooner Style could be published again, perhaps less frequently. It was agreed by all that we publish a mail-out in the fall and spring, to be mailed by ACDA.
C. All-State Junior High Mixed: Rebecca Lindley reported everything is moving along well. A total of 1,481 treble singers are auditioning (Sop I-368, Sop II-436, Alto I-387, Alto II-290).
D. All-State Junior High Treble (reported above)
E. All-State Jazz: Tony Gonzales reported all is well.
F. Region Representatives: Each representative reported on their regional honor choirs.
G. Repertoire and Standards Chairs
1. All-Collegiate Chorus will be March 25-26 at First Christian Church of Edmond. Clinician will be Doreen Rao.
2. Children’s Choir Festival will be on April 9 at OBU (to be confirmed). Julia Haley will be the clinician.
3. Community Choirs: Doris Lambert is continuing to work on compiling a list of community choirs.
4. Church: Boyd Fees had no report at this time.
5. Jazz Choirs: Directors Chorus sang this morning at the Fall OMEA Workshop.
6. JH & MS: No report
7. Two-Year College Choirs: No report
8. Women’s Choirs: No report
9. Youth & Student Activities: No report
10. High School: No report
11. Show Choirs: Becky Martin reported excitement about the resurgence of show choir interest, mostly
due to the television show “Glee.”
12. Male Choirs: Ralph Duncan will be writing an article with a story about a teacher who took a bus load
of junior high boys to a festival in Altus many years ago. A discussion followed about utilizing barbershop
groups as a means for encouraging boys to sing.
IV. Unfinished Business
A. Honor Choir Rotation
Motion was made by Rebecca Lindley and seconded by Becky Martin for Lisa Cullison to be the new mixed choir chair, and Rebecca Lindley will serve as treble choir chair. Motion was approved. Clinicians for 2012 will be Nancy Cobb Lippens, treble choir and Henry Leck for the mixed.
B. 2011 All-OCDA Honor Choir Festival
Tony Gonzales volunteered to take care of getting the program printed. Directors will be asked to follow the same rehearsal and break schedule. Badges are taken care of by Debbie Wood.
C. 2011 Summer Convention
It was suggested that Barbershop groups be a workshop session for this summer. Brian Hogan will be contacted by Boyd Fees. Other names suggested: Marilyn Govich (Darla Eshelman will contact) and Rick Zelinski (Charla will contact) and Sweet Adelines (Charla will contact). Headliners to be contacted are Cheryl Lavender and Jerry Blackstone.
Boyd Fees suggested Mac Wilberg, Jerry Blackstone, John Yarrington, and Steve Coker as future clinicians. For 2012 Mac Wilberg will be contacted as headliner by Darla Eshelman.
D. Next meeting is January 14, 2011 at 10:00am (Cox Convention Center). 2012 convention will be July 8-10. Location to be decided by Darla Eshelman.
E. Motion to adjourn was made by Kelly Martin, seconded by Ginger Meyer. Meeting adjourned at 2:35pm.
