OCDA Executive Board Meeting
Cox Convention Center, OKC
January 14, 2011


I.    President Charla Dedmon called the meeting to order at 2:30pm
Members present were:
Charla Dedmon, Ramona Cummings, Darla Eshelman, Doris Lambert, Randa Mitchell, Mark Lucas, Ginger Meyer, Becky Martin, Ralph Duncan, Julie Hester, Lisa Cullison, Kelly Martin, Brent Ballweg, Boyd Fees, Tony Gonzales, Darin Chapin, Rebecca Lindley

II.    Reading and Approval of the Minutes
Minutes from the October meeting were reviewed with revisions noted.  Lisa Cullison moved to accept the minutes with revisions; Mark Lucas seconded the motion.

III.  Committee Reports

A.    Treasurer’s Report
    Ramona Cummings

B.    OCDA Webmaster
    Brent Ballweg reported on the website and continued to encourage     members to join the OCDA community.   A discussion followed regarding
on-line registration forms for all-state.

C.    All-State JH Mixed
    Rebecca Lindley reported all is well.

D.      All-State Treble
    Nancy Murray reported all is running smoothly

E.      All-State Jazz
    Tony Gonzales reported that everything is going well with the jazz group.

F.      Regional Representatives– no reports given
    Northeast – Ginger Meyer

           Southwest – Kelly Martin

G.      Repertoire & Standards Chairs
1)  All-Collegiate – Kim Childs
    March 25-26 at FCC Edmond with Doreen Rao
    Board Meeting March 26th at 1:00pm
2)  Children’s Chorus – Lisa Cullison
Julia Haley will be the April 9 clinician at OBU.  Joint music will be posted on the website.

3) Community Choirs – Doris Lambert
Doris reported that she is continuing to gather names of community choirs, and the next step will be to list them on the website.
4)  Church – Boyd Bees
Boyd announced that the OCU Choirs & Orchestra are combining to do the Berlioz Requiem, April 3 at First Presbyterian Church, 4:00pm.  He reported that John Yarrington will present a session for this summer’s convention, and will highlight his new book topic – “Have We Had This Conversation Before?”
John Yarrington & Boyd Fees will conduct the church reading session.
5)  Jazz Choir  - Tony Gonzales
    No additional report at this time
6)  Middle School/Junior High – Randa Mitchell
    No report
7) Two year college – Mary Susan Whaley
    No report
8) Women’s Choirs - Julie Hester
    No report
9) Youth and Student Activities  - Mark Lucas
Mark reported that he has a plan of action for this position.  He will begin trying to organize ACDA collegiate chapters throughout universities in Oklahoma.   He also stated that he would speak with Rick Zelinski about doing a session for the summer convention.
10)  High School – Steve Maison

11) Show Choir – Becky Martin
Becky agreed to lead a show & jazz choir reading session this summer with Tony Gonzales.  She announced that there will be a show choir contest in Duncan on February 16.  Julie Hester’s group will perform at OMEA (9:30pm in the Hyatt Ballroom).
12)  Male Choirs – Ralph Duncan
Ralph reported that Brian Hogan would present a barbershop session at the summer convention.

IV.  2011 OCDA Summer Convention

4)    Reading Sessions
CTSWS – Lisa Cullison will order the packets and will take care of planning the session.  Children’s choir reading session will be handled through Cheryl
Lavender’s presentations.
JH & HS All-State – Beth Berkenbile, Jona Tickle, Tracy Watson
(Accompanist:  David Hillis)
MS/JH Reading Session – Randa  Mitchell (Accompanist:  David Hillis)
High School – Steve Maison (Accompanist:  David Hillis)
College & University – Kim Childs (Accompanist:  Ron Wallace)
Jazz & Show Choir – Becky Martin, Tony Gonzales (Accompanist: David Hillis)

Ramona Cummings noted that all accompanists need to be confirmed as soon as possible. 

V.      Unfinished Business
1) Honor Choir Rotation - Peggy Shelby will do the mixed choir for 2013; Justin Rosser is considering chairing the treble choir for 2014; Tony Gonzales agreed to jazz one more year.
2) ACDA National Convention is March 9-12, 2011 in Chicago.

VI.    New Business
1) 2012 Officer Nominees and Elections – to be conducted by e-mail
2) 2012 OCDA All-State Honor Choir Festival
Henry Leck – Mixed
Nancy Lippens – Treble
3)  Names were suggested for future mixed and treble clinicians:
Patrick Freer (Georgia State, new editor of MEJ); Lynn Gackle; Terry Barham- (retired from Emporia State University).
4) Next board meeting will be July 10 at 4:00, before the convention
(July 10-12, 2011).
5)  Boyd Fees announced that St. Olaf will be in concert on February 2 at First Presbyterian Church, OKC.
6)  Brent Ballweg mentioned that OKC is going to year round school, and suggested we take this into consideration before planning future convention dates.
7) 2012 summer convention will be July 8-10.
    8)  2012 All-OCDA Festival will be January 12-14.
9) Discussion of revision of all-state audition and acceptance forms as well as deadlines, etc.  Lisa and Kelly will work on this.  Lisa asked that the acceptance date for all-state be a week later and all agreed.
10) Discussion of home schoolers being able to participate in OCDA; it was noted that OSSAA only covers 7th & 8th graders.
11) Discussion of festival schedule – both choirs need to start at the same time.

VII.      Adjournment
Julie Hester made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Boyd Fees.  Meeting adjourned at 4:00pm.
