2^ INTERNATIONAL CHORAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION - 2011 MONTEVERDI CHORAL Cles, Trento, Italy Monteverdi Choral of Cles (TN), The competition is open to composers from any country with no limit of age. Each composer can submit one or more compositions. 1) There are two categories to the competition: 1.a) Young voices a cappella choirs: - the composition must accompany a text about Christmas. The text may be either in Italian or in English. - the composition must have from a minimum of 3 voices to a maximum of 4 voices (soprano, mezzosoprano, contralto, tenor, baritone, bass). - solo parts not allowed. - The composition may not last more than 4 minutes 1.b) Mixed choirs and organ: - the composition must accompany a text in Latin taken from the Advent’s liturgy. - minimum of 3 voices, maximum 6 - solo parts not allowed. - the composition should not last more than 5 minutes. - organ must be used. - the candidates should be aware of the fact that the compositions will be performed by non-professional choirs. 2) Procedure to take part in the competition All entries must be sent by registered mail to the following address: Corale Monteverdi di Cles, via delle scuole, 1 38023 Cles (TN) Italy Entries will be received no later than April 30, 2011 (the postmark shall prevail). Each entry must contain the following documentation: a) 6 copies of the composition which must be anonymous and distinguishable only by a short motto. The motto must also be written on the outside of a sealed envelope containing the candidates personal information; b) A sealed envelope (bearing the above mentioned motto) which must contain the following documents: - personal information about the composer (surname, first name, place and date of birth, address, nationality, telephone number, fax number, e-mail); - a photocopy of a legal document belonging to the candidate; - the title of the composition, its duration and a comment about the composition if the composer wishes to add it; - six copies of the candidate’s curriculum vitae regarding his artistic background; - a statement, signed by the composer, declaring that the composition was written specifically for this competition and has never been published or performed; c) authorization to use the candidate’s personal data for any purpose that strictly regards use for the competition (as according to the italian Law n.196/03, art. 13) d) the receipt of payment of the application fee of 25.00 Euro payable by bank transfer to: CASSA RURALE Dl TUENNO — VAI Dl NON IBAN CODE (for international transfers): IT32O0828234670000001005233 BIC: CCRTIT2T73A intestato a CORALE POLIFONICA MONTEVERDI This application fee is not refundable. e) entries that do not have all the required documentation included or that do not respect the necessary anonymity of each entry will be rejected. 3) The Jury and the Judging a) The compositions will be judged by a prestigious jury made up of 5 well-known international experts selected from the international music scene. The names of the members of the jury will be made public at a later date. Jury members who have pupils or relatives among the candidates shall abstain from judging their pupil’s work and their mark will be substituted by the average mark of the other judges. The decisions of the jury are final and unquestionable. b) The judging of the compositions will take place in two phases: during the month of Mai, 2010, the jury will evaluate all the entries and will choose the compositions admitted for final judging. The entries that will participate in the final judging will be officially communicated just after the jury’s decision. During the final phase of the competition, choirs selected by the organizing committee of the competition will publicly perform the entries selected for the final judgement and a winner will be proclaimed. The entries will be judged based on the quality of the composition and not based on the quality of the performances. 4) Prizes 1° Prize: 1000 € and diploma. 2° and 3° prizes: diploma.
