Music for Choir and 2+ instruments

Dear Colleagues,
My college choir's final spring concert has recently  been joined with a concert of our two wind ensembles. We already have a  nice piece to do as a combined finale, but I am looking for 1-2 short pieces for choir  that would feature some brass, wind and/or percussionists that we can also do in the program. .

I know there are many things, but as this is a recent development that I wasn't planning, I have to move quickly.  Your help would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

Dear Patricia:

My "Celestial Flame" might work fine for you. Here's the Consort Press catalog entry. Let me know if you'd like a copy.

Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for the suggestions so far. However, I should have mentioned that the use of organ is not an option for this concert.  Also, I am looking at a total of no more than 6 minutes, and that is if we do two pieces. Thanks again in advance!

Patricia,

I think the Clausen arrangement of The Water is Wide would work well.  It has parts for horn, clarinet, and cello.

Hi Patricia,

I have composed two works which might fit in with what you are looking for.

1)   LET'S AWAY WITH STUDY, for SSAA and woodwind quintet.  The work is 6-7 minutes long and has never been published or performed.  It has two good melodies, is tonal, has some tone-painting, and is fast-moving.  It is done in the style of the Elizabethan madrigals. It should be a lot of fun to sing.  The text was written in the 16th century, Latin, translated here into English.

2)  WHEN HEARTS IN MAY, for SATB, keyboard and a succession of woodwind or brass instruments (or combination thereof).  About 5 minutes long.  This is in the form of a fast Renaissance dance.   It is through-composed; each verse receives a similar but different setting and harmonization.  There are places where solo voices can be used instead of the chorus, at the discretion of the conductor.  This work has never been published or performed.  I have always regarded it as an experimental work (because the instruments can be constantly changing in succession without pause).  This work is tuneful and should be very enjoyable to sing and to listen to.

Please contact me if either or both of these interest you.

Cordially,

K. Lee Scott has a lovely men's piece called A Vineyard Grows. I don't  have a copy here but it's for TTB or TTBB, flute, oboe and piano. I had no oboist but I had a willing clarinet player so I transposed the part.
