Our February concert will remember 9/11 during its tenth anniversary year. Haydn’s MASS IN THE TIME OF WAR is one of his most exciting and powerful works. The program will highlight an extraordinary piece by the gifted American composer Joel Puckett. THIS MOURNING, composed to honor the victims of 9/11 and premiered at The Kennedy Center in 2006, was a critically acclaimed triumph. Joel Puckett will have a post concert conversation with Robert Shafer onstage immediately following the performance.
THIS MOURNING is a work of optimism and celebrates that art can bring consolation, hope and love to those who need it."
– Joel Puckett
The concert will begin with Bach's Fantasia and Fugue in G Minor, played by William Neil on The National Presbyterina Church's newly renovated organ.
The TCCW 2011 Young American Artists will be featured as soloists in this concert. They are Jennifer Weingartner (soprano), Alexandra Christoforakis (mezzo-soprano), and Sean Pflueger (bass). They were selected through a competitive auditions process.
