Zephyr Vocal Ensemble Début Concert, April 2nd (NJ)

Location: New Jersey, USA
Choir type: Chamber Choirs and Vocal Ensembles
Voicing: Mixed
ZEPHYR VOCAL ENSEMBLE, a new a cappella chorus in northern New Jersey, is pleased to present its concert début on April 2nd, 2011 at 8 p.m. Dedicated to performing a tremendous variety of musical genres at the highest professional level, Zephyr sings without a conductor and without sheet music, so as to foster a direct bond between artists and audience. Professional choreography by area choreographer Dana Ziegler heightens the visual interest of Zephyr's performances. Zephyr is comprised of 14 singers who are almost all professional musicians. Zephyr's concerts are designed to be enjoyable by the general public, as well as by classical choral music afficionados.

This concert, entitled "The Magic of Meader and McGlynn," features the work of two very different composer/arrangers. The haunting, driven music of Irish composer/arranger Michael McGlynn is featured on our first half. Listeners will recognize McGlynn's compositional style from having heard his group, Anuna, singing in the first American tour of "Riverdance." The conclusion of the concert will focus upon the sweet and elegant but challenging jazz vocals of Darmon Meader, composer/arranger for New York Voices. Collaborating with Zephyr for this jazz segment will be the fabulous Mitch Schechter String Jazz Trio (keyboard, string bass, percussion); the fun, improvisational scatting of Zephyr members Mike Yannuzzi, Pat Autilio, and Ralph Wallace will be highlighted.
