SFGC will celebrate its 2011 season, upcoming tour to Cuba and benefit its scholarship fund with a concert and gala Friday, March 25, at the Herbst Theatre. Entitled іCelebración!, the benefit features guest Latin American band LaTiDo and music made in and inspired by Latin America from the 19th century to the present. In addition to the concert, the event will feature cocktails, dinner and live auction. The event marks the 10th anniversary of SFGC’s Artistic Director, Dr. Susan McMane
The Latin-infused concert features music by Ernani Aguiar, Heitor Villa-Lobos, traditional Mexican music and special Afro-Cuban guest ensemble, LaTiDo. Another highlight of the program will be Villa-Lobos’ “Cantilena” from Bachianas Brazileiras, No. 5, in its original version, accompanied by eight cellos.
