The mission of the ACDA is to inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.

Professional Choral Institute

The Professional Choral Institute is unlike any other program in the nation.  A collaboration between the worlds of art and academia, the focus of PCI is to usher singers from talented amateurs to professional musicians.
The University of South Florida and South Florida’s own Seraphic Fire are thrilled to team up for the first annual Professional Choral Academy. PCI is a two week long program that will focus on teaching 40 undergraduate and graduate level pre-professional singers the skills needed to move into the growing field of professional choral singing.  There is no age limit. Areas of vocational training will include:
  • vocal technique
  • rehearsal comportment
  • audition skills
  • résumé evaluation
  • headshot evaluation
Participants will work side-by-side in rehearsal, performance, and recording sessions with the professional musicians of Seraphic Fire under the leadership of the team that created SF’s chart-topping recording of Claudio Monteverdi'sVespers. The two-week workshop will culminate in a nationally-released recording and three performances of Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem
Patrick Dupré Quigley, Artistic Director of Seraphic Fire; James K. Bass, Director of Choral Studies at USF; and Peter Ruttenberg, GRAMMY-winning producer/conductor of the Los Angeles Chamber Singers.
Dates: May 22 – June 5, 2011
