The Salvation Army Concord Community Church is partnering with the Pacific Masterworks Chorus to bring needed relief to the families in Concord, California, and the victims of the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami. Concord's sister city, Kitakami, is in the northeast, the heaviest hit area impacted by the earthquake, tsunami, and the damaged nuclear powerplant. The Church is requesting that non-perishable food items be brought for the Food Pantry which serves 550 families per month. For more information about The Salvation Army Food Pantry, go to www.salvationarmyconcordca.org or call 925-676-6180.
The Benefit concert on Saturday, March 26, starts at 3:00 pm, will be held at the SACCC on 3950 Clayton Road in Concord. Dr, Greg Lyne will lead the Chorus performing works by Pergolesi, Schumann, Purcell, Handel, Homilius, and Salas. The chorus is accompanied by Danielle Naler, pianist. Admission to the concert is Free. Donations will be requested.
In 1974, Kitakami, Japan became Concord's Sister City. Kitakami is located in the upper northeast area of Japan in the Iwate Prefecture. This area was heavily damaged by the tsunami and photos of the devastation show that much of the area is still underwater. Water has spilled over the banks both north and south of the Kitakami river. Although agricultural fields appear to have escaped the flooding farther inland, some fields closer to the ocean have seemingly disappeared into the sea. North of the Kitakami, floodwaters extend far enough inland to create what looks like a parallel river. Near the coast, only the rugged peaks rising above the floodplains have escaped inundation.
The 40-voice Pacific Masterworks Chorus is the East Bay’s newest community performing arts organization and is a proud member of the Dublin and Pleasanton Chambers of Commerce. Founded in July 2010, the chorus has established itself as the area’s premier chorus having performed with the Bay Bells, JKPC Radiant Ringers, JKPC Chancel Choir, Liberty High School Chamber Singers, Cantabella Children’s Chorus, and Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra for the annual San Ramon Messiah Sing-along. In December, PMC will perform with the Livermore Amador Symphony. The Chorus has also lent its voices in support of the Dublin Emergency Food Bank.
The Pacific Masterworks Chorus is devoted to high quality choral performance and recording. We embrace a wide variety of repertoire ranging from works of the a cappella tradition through accompanied compositions including choral masterworks. We seek to perform and record distinctive choral music that will have value to both our performers and to our audiences. We provide training and education in historical and contemporary choral methods for individual growth and community enrichment. For more information, go to www.pacificmasterworkschorus.org.
