Composers making major push to publicize their own works

I am in deep admiration of composers who are working hard to publicize their works to the community of conductors.

Donald Patriquin started his own website a couple of years ago - I publicized it here.  More recently, he's come out with a major new work timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic's sinking.  (April 15, 2012)  I got an email about the release and I noticed the YouTube video that accompanies the promotion.

There are many difficulties when you publish your own work and publicity is one of them.

While we can't promote all releases of all new works here at ChoralNet, we can recognize innovation in promotion!  I like what Patriquin has done - I think other composers will follow in his footsteps (if they haven't already).

We, too, are very much in admiration of the diligence on the part of composers seeking to achieve visibility for their works!  In addition to selecting repertoire that heavily favors living composers, Schola Cantorum on Hudson is pro-actively seeking to lengthen and strengthen the marketing arm of working composers, for the benefit of all of us involved in the choral art, through PROJECT : ENCORE™ of Schola Cantorum on Hudson, where post-premiere new works are vetted by a pool of prominent choral conductors, then uploaded (if approved), into a keyword-searchable database.  Composers, take a look, and consider sending material for which you are seeking visibility beyond its premiere.  Conductors, explore the database for some really exquisite material.  (No money is involved from anyone at any stage.)  Through PROJECT : ENCORE™, SCH provides a paradigm for evaluating and promoting new post-premiere choral works, and in so doing, seeks to make a positive impact on the creation and performance of new choral works.

Composers, thank you for keeping creativity alive, and for inspiring and uplifting all of us!  If we can help with visibility, that will be our honor.

With gratitude,
