CAE announces its fourth annual composition contest. One composer will be selected to win a $2000 commission for the 2012-2013 season. The winning composer of the 2010 contest, Brian W. Holmes, will have his commission premiered in May 2012. Previous winners include Kentaro Sato and Timothy C. Takach.

There is a submission fee of $25 per score; individual movements count as a score.
(All contest fees support the commissioning of new works)
Composers of any age or nationality may submit sample works of any duration for a cappella choir, maximum divisi SSAATTBB. Complete cycles or suites may be submitted, but please indicate the movement(s) you would like reviewed. Up to five finalists will be selected to have their submitted scores read and studied by a panel of judges. These finalists will be notified by September 1, 2011. Of the finalists, one will be selected to compose a 4-5 minute a cappella work for premiere during the 2012-2013 season. All finalists’ work will be considered for future programming. Submitting a score gives CAE permission to photocopy it for workshop purposes only.
Please send: score(s); recording(s) if available (MIDI realizations are acceptable); information sheet with the work's title, composer's name, address, telephone, and email/website (click here for entry form); entry fee of $25 per score (checks payable to Choral Arts Ensemble); and an SASE for return of materials if desired (international submissions cannot be returned).

Winner notification: No later than October 31, 2011
