New York City Master Chorale: Fifth Anniversary Concert
Date: May 9, 2011
Location: New York, USA
Under the direction of Artistic Director Dr. Thea Kano, the New York City Master Chorale will celebrate its fifth anniversary by performing the New York City premiere of contemporary composer Paul Leavitt’s Requiem. The performance also features Maurice Duruflé’s Messe cum Jubilo. The concert will be held on Friday, May 20 at 8:00 pm at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.
Leavitt’s Requiem has been praised by The Washington Post’s Contributing Critic Cecelia Porter for successfully combining “the sense of overwhelming grief and consolation that suffuse the requiems of Mozart, Verdi, Brahms and Fauré.”
The Chorale will be joined by the Empire State Sinfonia as well as singers from the Lutheran Church of the Reformation Festival Chorus of Washington, DC. The performance features Paul Leavitt on organ, soprano Paige Cutrona, whom The New York Times has described as "passionate" and "vocally striking," soprano Irina Varamesova, mezzo-soprano Erica Joan Haman, tenor Douglas R. Benoit, baritone Gregory Stuart, and baritone Skip Teel.
A “talk back” session will be held immediately following the concert, in which Leavitt and Dr. Kano will answer questions from the audience.
Tickets are available at www.nycmasterchorale.org or at the door, as available.
