Salem First United Methodist Church will present it's first annual "Service of Remembrance" at 3:00pm on Sunday, May 29th, 2011, in honor of the 128 men and women who have given their lives in service to our country over the past 10 years.
The Service will include the reading of all 128 names, followed by the lighting of a candle for each and the ringing of bells.
The Service will open with the hauntingly beautiful "Prayer of St. Gregory" by Alan Hovhaness for solo trumpet and string orchestra. The Service will conclude with a performance of Maurice Duruflé's REQUIEM for soloists, choir, organ, and orchestra.
The church is located at 600 State Street in downtown Salem (at the corner of Church and State Streets). Plenty of parking is available.
There is a suggested donation of $10.00 to attend, but families of the fallen service men and women will be allowed in for free.
Dr. Kerry Burtis, Conductor
