Month of Moderns II
Saturday June 18 at 8pm
with Tempesta di Mare Baroque Chamber Orchestra
Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill -- Philadelphia, PA
Kile Smith: The Waking Sun - world premiere
Kamran Ince: Thyestes - world premiere
Gabriel Jackson - Not no faceless angel
World premieres are part of The Crossing's SENECA SOUNDS commissioning project - new works on the words of the Roman Stoic playwright.
Month of Moderns II continues our deep connection with Philadelphia composer Kile Smith as we sing a substantial work on texts of Seneca, compiled by the composer into a gripping and beautiful libretto: The Waking Sun, written for Baroque instruments and choir. Tempesta di Mare will join us for this important event. We will sing the world premiere of Turkish/American composer Kamran Ince's Seneca Sounds commission, and Gabriel Jackson's extraordinary Not no faceless angel: Another photograph to put on a shelf (2006), for choir, cello and flute - featuring Mimi Stillman, Philly favorite and Artistic Director of Dolce Suono and Eve Miler, cellist for Tempesta di Mare.
