New York City Bar Chorus

Category: Community Choirs
Voicing: Mixed
Location: New York, New York, USA
The New York City Bar Chorus, a unique 85+-voice ensemble made up entirely of legal professionals, has served as a goodwill ambassador of the New York City Bar Association since 1993.  Since then, the chorus has staged more than 200 concerts at community venues such as senior residences and nursing homes, AIDS residences, cancer treatment centers, and pediatric and rehabilitation facilities. The chorus also performs for luminaries of the bench and bar, feting former New York State Chief Judge Judith Kaye at the St. Regis Hotel; toasting its founder, former Fordham Law Dean John Feerick, at City Bar headquarters; and singing at the ABA Annual Meeting (as well as on local and national TV). In 2009, the City Bar Chorus performed with its Scottish counterpart, Edinburgh’s Faculty of Advocates Choir. The chorus has received the Excellence in Public Service Award from The Hundred Year Association of New York (for its shows at NYC firehouses after 9/11) and was honored by NY1 TV News as “New Yorkers of the Week.”

The chorus’ musical leaders are practicing lawyers as well. Its musical director, Kathryn E. Schneider, is VP and Senior Counsel at ACE Group. Its accompanist, Matthew V. Grieco, is Chief Court Attorney of the Appellate Division, First Department, New York State.

The group’s diverse repertoire runs the gamut from the Fab Four to the Jackson 5 to Queen, jazz to gospel, and South Pacific to Hair.
