OCDA Executive Board Meeting
University of Oklahoma
July 10, 2011
I. Charla Dedmon called the meeting to order at 5:20pm. The following members were present:
Charla Dedmon, Darla Eshelman, Ramona Cummings, Kim Childs, , Rebecca Lindley, Boyd Fees, Paula Kiner, , Brent Ballweg, Lisa Cullison, Bill Perring, Doris Lambert, Ginger Meyer, Kelly Martin, Ralph Duncan, Becky Martin, Darin Chapin.
II. Minutes from the March 2011 board meeting were read and approved with a motion by Kelly Martin, seconded by Lisa Cullison. Motion passed.
III. Committee Reports
A. Treasurer’s Report
Mark Smith, ACDA National Treasurer has asked that our account be monitored by national headquarters due to some embezzlement problems from other states. Motion was made by Brent Ballweg that we allow Mark Smith to have Internet accessibility to view OCDA bank statements without having additional signatures. Motion seconded by Ginger Meyer. Motion passed.
B. Web-Master Report
Brent Ballweg reported that we need to appoint a new web-master. Mark Monteith was mentioned as a possible candidate. The board was encouraged to write articles for the choralnet website.
C. All-State JH Mixed
Lisa Cullison reported that Henry Leck is scheduled to be the 2012 clinician. CDs will be ready for pick-up on Tuesday of the convention. Lisa will contact Randy Lind at Southern Hills BC about auditions (Oct. 29, Nov. 15).
D. All-State Treble
Kelly Martin reported that Nancy Cobb-Lippens is scheduled to be the 2012 clinician.
E. All-State HS Jazz
Gary Eckert is this year’s jazz clinician.
F. Region Representatives
NE – Ginger Meyer, Oct. 1 for regional auditions, Nov. 8 is the festival concert
NW – Paula Kiner: Oct. 8 for region auditions, Nov. 22 is the festival concert
SW - Kelly Martin: Sept. 17 for region auditions, Oct. 17 is the festival concert
SE – Darin Chapin will be replaced due to him moving out of the region.
G. R & S Chairs
1. College/University – Kim Childs reported that the 2012 festival dates have tentatively been changed to March 9-10 due to a conflict with NATS dates. Joe Miller may still be able to be clinician, but due to the date change it is unknown at this time.
2. Children’s Chorus – Lisa Cullison reported that we had a successful festival with 200 students participating at OBU in April. Clinician was Julia Haley.
3. Community Chorus – Doris Lambert reported hearing wonderful choirs at the ACDA National Conference. She is working on a questionnaire for community choir directors to gather information about how they function and what their needs are.
4. Church – Boyd Fees reported there is a community/church honor choir at the SWACDA regional convention in Dallas (first weekend in March). He discussed an invitational church choir festival his church hosts, sponsored by Oklahoma Alliance for Liturgy and the Arts. Next year’s date will be Sept. 24, 2011.
5. Jazz Choirs – Tony Gonzales, no report
6. Junior High – Randa Mitchell, no report.
7. Youth & Student Activities – Mark Lucas is planning to resign in order to accept a position on the OMEA board. A new appointment will be made to replace Mark.
8. High School -Bill Perring was welcomed as new HS R & S Chair. He asked for more information in regards to asking publishers for copyright permission on the CDs. Wes Singleton can be contacted as a resource.
9. Women’s Choirs – Julie Hester, no report.
10. Show Choirs – Becky Martin, no report.
11. Male Choirs – Ralph Duncan reported that he is planning to visit some campuses to see what is going on with state men’s choirs.

B. Quad Chairs: NE (Justin Rosser, Vonna Stout), SE (Susanne McDaniel), SW (Lisa Cullison), NW (Angie McKenna and Nancy Murray)
C. Final Auditions at Southern Hills BC. All-State Chairs are Lisa Cullison and Kelly Martin
Future Board Meeting Dates
Oct. 20, 20111 at First Presbyterian Church, 1001 NW 25th, 1:30pm (Boyd Fees will host the meeting)
Jan. 13, 2012 at Cox Convention Center (times tba)
March 9, 2012 during All-Collegiate Festival (date confirmation and location tba)
July 8, 2012 at OU (pre-convention meeting)
OCDA Children’s Festival 2012 date to be announced by Leah Nellis, incoming R & S Chair.
2012 Summer Convention Dates – July 8-10. Headliner will be Dr. Tim Sharp.
Unfinished Business
A. Audition Rule Requirements were discussed. Lisa Cullison will revise and get these corrected on the website.
B. Commissioned piece for OMEA Women’s All-State Choir (James Mullholand is commissioned composer).
C. Future clinicians and directors were discussed.
