Bay Area/Northern Conference
Dr. Geoffrey Boers
Director of Choral Activities, University of Washington, Seattle
Geoffrey Boers is Director of Choral Activities at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he is the Mary K. Shepman Endowed Professor of Music.  Under his direction, the choral program at University of Washington has grown to include nearly twenty graduate choral conductors each year, as well as nine ensembles conducted by five faculty and many graduate students with nearly six hundred singers participating.  He conducts the UW Chamber Singers, the university’s premier ensemble of graduate and advanced singers.  He also teaches graduate choral conducting and choral pedagogy and serves as faculty advisor as part of the graduate choral curriculum.  He is the recipient of UW’s prestigious Royalty Research Grant, which allowed him to travel to the Baltic region and to establish the UW Baltic Choral Music Library, the first of its kind in the U.S.  Dr. Boers maintains an active conducting, teaching, workshop and clinic schedule.  He especially enjoys working with conductors and their choirs with focus on building communication through gesture and expressivity and building community within the ensemble.  In addition to his position at UW, he is the conductor of the Tacoma Symphony Chorus.

Central/Central Coast Conference
Dr. Christopher Peterson
Associate Professor of Music, California State University, Fullerton
Chris Peterson will present two sessions:  The Connecting Power of Music and Creating Dynamic Rehearsals:  Road Maps for Success!  At CSU Fullerton, he directs the Men’s Chorus and CSUF Concert Choir and teaches classes in choral music education.  From 2001 to 2007, he taught at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, and he also taught for 9 years in the public schools of Maine.  Chris is series editor and and a choral arranger for Hal Leonard’s Close Harmony Series for Men and the Close Harmony Collection.  He is also a contributing author for the textbook series Experiencing Choral Music, published nationally by Glencoe.  Chris currently is the State Choral Representative for the California Music Educators Association and maintains an active schedule as choral clinician and judge for international choral events.  He earned the bachelor of science from the University of Southern Maine, the master of music in choral conducting from the University of Maine, and the doctor of philosophy in choral music education from Florida State University.

Southern/Far South Conference
Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe
Chair of Thornton School of Music’s Department of Choral and Sacred Music at USC
 
Jo-Michael Scheibe teaches choral conducting and choral methods and supervises the graduate and undergraduate choral program.  He is the president-elect of the American Choral Directors Association.  Choruses under his direction have sung at six national ACDA conventions and national conventions of the Music Educators National Conference.  A champion of contemporary music, Dr. Scheibe regularly commissions and performs new works of choral literature.  He has helped launch the careers of promising young composers and promoted music by international composers largely unknown in the U.S.  Music publishers—Walton, Colla Voce, and Santa Barbara—distribute the Jo-Michael Scheibe Choral Series internationally.  He previously taught at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, Northern Arizona University, Long Beach City College, Huntington Beach High School, and Napa’s Vintage High School.  Dr. Scheibe earned his D.M.A. from USC and his B.A. and M.M. degrees from CSU Long Beach, where he was presented with the distinguished alumnus award.  He has served as music and artistic director of several community community choral organizations.  In addition to ACDA, he is a member of Chorus America, the International Federation of Choral Music, and several other professional and educational organizations.  He is in frequent demand internationally as a clinician, conductor, and adjudicator for choruses at the university, community college, community, and secondary levels.
