Course load questions

Forgive me for barraging you with survey questions, but I have one more set. Your replies would be very helpful and are greatly appreciated.

1. What is your school's "normal" teaching load per semester?

2. How many choral ensembles do you conduct?

3. Are any of the ensembles not counted in your teaching loads?

4. If you direct musicals or opera theater productions, is this counted in your load, or is it something you do over and above your regular load without compensation?

5. How many academic courses do you teach each semester in addition to the ensemble/s?

6. Do you teach applied lessons, and are these counted in your load?

7. If you are a pianist, do you also accompany student recitals, opera workshop, or musicals? (Is this counted as part of your load?)

8. Are administritave duties part of your load?  Or are you an administrator, in addition to carrying a full teaching load?

1. What is your school's "normal" teaching load per semester? 4 classes with a 1 class release for research (ends up like 3 + 3).

2. How many choral ensembles do you conduct? 1 or 2

3. Are any of the ensembles not counted in your teaching loads? They are each counted as one class.

4. If you direct musicals or opera theater productions, is this counted in your load, or is it something you do over and above your regular load without compensation? If they are for credit, they are part of my load.  If not, I get paid a fee (unless I volunteer outright, which I have done in the past).

5. How many academic courses do you teach each semester in addition to the ensemble/s? It varies between one and three.  This semester I am teaching two courses and two "contract studies" which are NOT compensated.

6. Do you teach applied lessons, and are these counted in your load? Yes, and, No (the applied lesson fee is paid directly to the teacher over and above salary)

7. If you are a pianist, do you also accompany student recitals, opera workshop, or musicals? (Is this counted as part of your load?) n/a

8. Are administritave duties part of your load?  Or are you an administrator, in addition to carrying a full teaching load? Duties, yes.  I am NOT considered a university administrator, though my title is "Director of Choral Activities."  It's a very young, small program, so the administrative duties are not overwhelming.

1. What is your school's "normal" teaching load per semester? We have "contact hours" in the performing arts department at my college rather than credit hours that we teach, so here is the breakdown of what I do. 1 choral ensemble, 1 musical theatre ensemble, class voice, 2 sections of aural skills, class guitar. All of these are 1 credit hour courses.

3. Are any of the ensembles not counted in your teaching loads? No

5. How many academic courses do you teach each semester in addition to the ensemble/s? 4

6. Do you teach applied lessons, and are these counted in your load? Yes I do teach applied lessons, but these are overload for me and I am compensated for them.

7. If you are a pianist, do you also accompany student recitals, opera workshop, or musicals? (Is this counted as part of your load?) NA

8. Are administritave duties part of your load? Or are you an administrator, in addition to carrying a full teaching load? Administrative duties are expected to be carried out during my office hours.
