I know this subject must be addressed often, but for some reason the search engine isn't working and I'm not feeling patient enough to wait until it's back online. There are no standing traditions for giving choir awards at the high school where I teach, and I'd like to start some this year. Last year I gave a nice medallion to the graduating seniors (only four of them, this year there are 14!) at the spring concert. But I'd like to start an annual Singer of the Year or "Choir MVP" type of an award with an honorary plaque on the wall. If you do something similar, do you choose the recipient, or is it voted on? What other kinds of awards do you give out that can serve as motivators throughout the year, and who decides who receives them?
