ActorCor, a 40 voice choir of professional actors, seeks through collective imagination to find new ways of living in a complicated world. We are soliciting choral pieces that relate to interfaith understanding and reconciliation, especially between the three main Abrahamic faiths (Christianity, Judaism and Islam). The selected work will be featured on our concert during Martin Luther King weekend in January 2012 at All Souls Unitarian Church in New York City. Through this effort we wish to expand the accessibility and quality of interfaith choral music.
— Eligibility: There are no restrictions of age, nationality, etc.; anyone is eligible except active members of ActorCor.
— Deadline: November 1, 2011 (Tuesday) is the postmark deadline for all submissions (email submissions must also be received by this date)
— There is no entry fee.
About the submitted work:
— Please submit one (1) score per composer.
— Voicing: SATB or SAB, a cappella or with accompaniment of keyboard, percussion, and/or up to small ensemble of chamber instruments. Rare or non-Western instruments are encouraged, but are considered on a case-by-case basis depending on availability.
— Difficulty: we are seeking pieces appropriate for strong amateur chorus.
— Duration: preference given to pieces approximately 3 - 8 minutes long.
— Text: Should involve or reflect on one of the three main Abrahamic faiths (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) and the relationships between them. Pieces in languages other than English are welcome. For texts under copyright, composers must provide, in the submission packet, evidence that they have secured text permission for the submitted work (or that they expect to receive permission before the performance date).
— Submitted pieces should align with the spirit and goals of ActorCor; before choosing what piece to submit, please learn more about ActorCor at www.actorcor.org.
— We are interested in pieces that blend, in interesting and original ways, non-Western musical styles and traditions with Western ones.
— There are no restrictions as to publication or performance history.
