Artists Vocal Ensemble : Wise and Foolish Virgins - CONCERTS

Location: California, USA
Choir type: Chamber Choirs and Vocal Ensembles
Voicing: Mixed
AVE Season Opener : Wise and Foolish Virgins
AVE starts its season with a concert contrasting the two main paradigms of the gospel parable about the Second Coming: Catholic Spain and
Protestant Germany both viewed this story with passion and engagement. In the Renaissance, Spain concentrated on Latin motets while Germany
adapted the story to vernacular accounts of the "Watchman."
A recently discovered Mass setting by the Spanish Renaissance composer, Alonso Lobo (1555 - 1617) will receive its U.S. premiere here.
Other Renaissance composers include Tallis, Josquin and Praetorius.
Modern works include Peter Hallock's piece for men's voices and five celli, music of Hugo Distler, Mark Winges, and Ivo Antognini (American premiere of a piece written specifically for AVE)
