On Friday, November 4 at 8 PM, the Guest Artist Series at Haverford College presents THE CROSSING, with Donald Nally, conductor, and Scott Dettra, organ, performing Curt Cacioppo's "Cantata of the Angels" (Vermillion Vespers), a concert-length work for choir and organ.  This concert will be held off-campus at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 South Valley Forge Road, Wayne, PA, 19087.  Ticket prices are $15 (Gen), $12 (Sr), $8 (students), $5 (7-17).  For more information (610) 896-1011 or nmerriam@haverford.edu.

A modern vespers, the work was commissioned by the Gobbo family of Venice to celebrate the 80th birthday of their patriarch, Angelo, commissioning poetry by the Venetian poet Luigi Cerantola, whose images beautifully capture the vermilion twilight of a long-lived life.  Like the sacred vespers service, Cacioppo’s work takes us on a journey from creation through hope and celebration in an eclectic musical language joining Renaissance rhythms and lush contemporary harmonies, featuring the virtuosity of organist Scott Dettra and the warm understanding of the singers.

Vermilion Vespers is complemented by Bruno Bettinelli’s contemplative motets on familiar sacred hymn texts appropriate to the meditative spirit of the hour of the setting sun.
