Requiem for 3 Murdered Princesses - Annual Office of the Dead Concerts - Nov 6, 12 & 13

Location: California, USA
Choir type: Professional Choirs
Voicing: Mixed
San Francisco Renaissance Voices (Todd Jolly, Music Director) performs the first regular concerts of their 2011-12 Season with their 8th annual Office of the Dead concerts.  The legendary house of the Medici was as full of triumph as it was tragedy; especially symbolized by the murders of the 3 princesses, Maria, Lucrezia & Isabella, daughters of the Duke Cosimo, at the hands of their husbands.  We perform our annual Office of the Dead concerts for the princesses with music inspired by the Mass performed for their father at his funeral.  Included is music by Carlo Gesualdo, Francesco Sponza Usper, Paolo Tarditi and others, as well as music by the Medici, including that of Isabella whose ghost is rumored to still appear in the castle where she was murdered; featured is the Requiem of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594).
