Join us for this FREE event in which The Crossing "plays" a little; you'll have a rare opportunity to share with us the experience of facing new musical challenges.
We will be experimenting with the unique musical languages of Chris Jonas and Gene Coleman - two composers commissioned for new works in our 2013 Month of Moderns. Each has written excerpts we will sing and through which we will explore the potential and promise in matching their style to our art - unlocking creative possibilities in all of us.
Come join The Crossing, its renowned 24 professional singers, and conductor Donald Nally for an open workshop as we begin our musical journey exploring human relationships as a metaphor for the ever growing discordance between humans and the earth.
Free and open to the public.
Chris Jonas, primarily associated with instrumental chamber ensembles and jazz, will be here from his home in Santa Fe to enlighten us on his ideas. Pierre Joris, poet for the project The Gulf (between you and me), will join us from his home in Brooklyn.
Gene Coleman will be present at the follow-up workshop in May 2012.
Reservations are not required. Open minds and creative questions encouraged.
