Las Posadas - A Christmas Journey
Date: December 5, 2011
Location: Colorado, USA
Choir type: Community Choirs
Saturday, December 17th, One World Singers will feature songs of the Christmas season from the Mexican Las Posadas tradition as well as other holiday favorites, with special guests Stop Time Recorder Ensemble. There will be 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. performances of the musical program on Saturday, December 17 at One World Singers’ new home, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2201 Dexter Street, Denver, Colorado.
One World Singers perform songs from many countries and cultures, led by Music Director Dr. Keith Arnold. Las Posadas festivities occur from December 16 through the 24th each year, reenacting the journey of Mary and Joseph from Nazareth to Bethlehem and their difficulty finding shelter. Modern-day “pilgrims” take part in nightly processions, singing a song asking for shelter at neighborhood homes, and the hosts sing a reply. Each party ends with a piñata in the shape of the Christmas star.
Tickets for the December 17 performances are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $7 for children under 12. Meal or dessert tickets for a post-performance feast after the 7:00 p.m. performance are also available for $6. Advance tickets may be ordered at www.oneworldsingers.org or by calling 303-250-7202.
