The Junior Choir (grades 2-4) and the Senior Choir (grades 5-9) will present a holiday concert entitled "Winter Nights".
Where: Carmel Presbyterian Church, 100 Edge Hill Rd., Glenside, PA When: 7:30pm on Sat. Dec. 17, 2011 Admission: $10 adults and $5 children 12 and under.
The program will celebrate the traditions of Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza and Winter. The music will include world premieres of two treble arrangements: "Gloria" by local composer Nancy Gifford and "Nia" from the Nguzo Saba Suite by Glenn E. Burleigh. In addition to traditional carols, the children will perform a Sami "yoik" (a very old singing style from the Sami people of Scandanavia and Russia) in which vocal syllables are used in short phrases to express specific feelings or elements of nature, in this case, a winter night.
The selections will be accompanied by flute, clarinet, sax, piano and percussion. Our annual Parent Chorus will join the children for the closing piece "We Wish You A Merry Christmas".
