The Missa Gaia (Earth Mass) concert, a contemporary, uplifting celebration of Mother Earth, features the combined choirs of the Unitarian Universalist (UU) church communities in Philadelphia, PA and Mt. Airy, PA, as well as guest musicians Kenny Ulansey (Best of Philly dance band) and Jonathan Hulting-Cohen on sax, keyboard virtuoso Dave Posmontier, guitarist Shawn Qaissaunee, Steve Beskrone on bass and Jim Hamilton on percussion.
The recorded "voices" of wolf, whale and loon are also heard in this rhythmic, joyous music traditionally performed at the Winter Solstice. This Concert for the Earth will take place on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 5:00 PM at the First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia, 2125 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
Under the direction of Jennifer Hayman, music director at First Unitarian Church of Philadelphia, and Jane Hulting, music director at the UU Church of the Restoration in Mt. Airy, Missa Gaia is a masterpiece from the Paul Winter Consort, composed in 1980 as a contemporary ecumenical mass. A reception with refreshments will follow. There is a $10 General Admission charge.
